It was all over the news this morning, has continued to be discussed throughout the day and shows no sign of ending soon.
The mistake that took place when La La Land was named the winner of the best Picture Oscar, in place of Moonlight was right there, in your face and there was nowhere to hide.
How did such a thing happen though?
I’ve been looking into this and have come to the conclusion that it was a mistake that took place simply because somebody was not paying attention.
The envelopes are all left on the stage in a suitcase and, next to them, is another suitcase with exactly the same envelopes, just in case there is a problem. These suitcases are guarded by the LAPD.
It seems that a floor manager, or somebody who was not paying attention, took the envelope from the second suitcase, which was then handed to Warren Beatty & Faye Dunaway.
Why was this result read out though?
If you watch the video, you can see that Warren Beatty is clearly confused by what he is reading, but unsure of what he should be doing about it. He shows this to Faye Dunaway who, not realising that there is a problem, simply reads out the film title that she sees on the card before her.
Of course, this is not likely what you will hear in the coming days, as in Hollywood they will find some other reason for it or find some way to blame somebody who had nothing to do with it. When does anybody ever take the blame when there is a scapegoat available to do it for them.
