My guest today is author Jennifer Estep.
Welcome Jennifer, let’s start with you telling us a little about yourself including where you are from?
My name is Jennifer Estep, and I’m a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author.
I write the Elemental Assassin urban fantasy series for Pocket Books.
I’m also the author of the Black Blade young adult urban fantasy series, the Mythos Academy young adult urban fantasy series, and the Bigtime paranormal romance series.
Can you tell us about your new e-novella?
Unwanted, an Elemental Assassin e-novella from the point of view of fan favorite Finnegan Lane, will be released on July 18.
Here is the description:
The New York Times bestselling Elemental Assassin series continues with a new e-novella–from the point of view of Finnegan Lane, the foster brother of Gin Blanco, and a fan favorite of readers of the series.
The fallout from his disastrous “family reunion” in Bitter Bite has left Finn feeling hurt, angry, and depressed. He can barely stand to look at himself in the mirror, much less eat any of the delicious barbecue from Gin’s famed Pork Pit restaurant.
But when the funeral for a slain security guard at his bank turns into a showdown with some nasty underworld giants, Finn knows that he must act in order to protect an innocent family.
Finnegan Lane might be the most unwanted man in Ashland these days, but he’s determined to try to make amends for his past mistakes…
What is your writing schedule like? Do you strive for a certain amount of words each day?
I’m on the computer usually by 9 a.m. checking emails, posting on social media, etc., and then I get started on whatever I need to do that day, whether it’s writing a new book, editing, updating my website, etc.
I take a couple of breaks during the day, but I usually work late into the afternoon. Depending on my deadlines and what needs to get done, I sometimes work late into the evening. So it’s definitely a job, just like any other.
Which writers influence you the most?
Some of my favorite authors include Ian Fleming, Robin McKinley, Lisa Kleypas, David Eddings, and Donald Westlake/Richard Stark, among many others.
Where do you write? Is there something you need in order to write (music, drinks)?
I write at home in my office. Boring, I know. LOL. The only thing I need to write is silence. I don’t listen to music or anything like that when I write.
You have told us what you like to write, but what do you like to read?
I read pretty widely in a variety of genres — all kinds of fantasy, all kinds of romance, mysteries, spy thrillers, westerns, etc.
What plans have you got for future books?
UNWANTED, an e-novella in my Elemental Assassin urban fantasy series, will be released on July 18. UNRAVELED, book #15 in the series, will be released on Aug. 30. I’m also working on another e-novella and book in the series.
Folks can visit my website for updates about my books.
What is the hardest part of being an author?
For me, one of the hardest things is just making the time to write. Authors do so many things — advertising, blogging, social media, answering e-mails, etc. — that it is sometimes hard for me to find the time to sit down and actually write. Being an author is like having your own small business, and there’s always work to be done.
Lastly, is there anything else you would like to add?
Thanks for hosting me on your site. I appreciate it. Happy reading, everyone!
Thank you for being my guest and good luck with your books.
